TRANSGENERATIONAL
is a campaign inspired by stories of queer and allies friends and their families, where some had the chance to learn make up from their parents, grandparents or older chosen family members. ‘TRANSGENERATIONAL’ is also a visual ode to exploration of queerness by gialu.mx during their own transition supported by colors and magic of NYX cosmetics. but most of all it’s about the acceptance and exchange between generations which should receive more representation among audiences of all ages.

1.Music video
Most of all this idea is inspired by Gialu’s new song ( LINK ) which talks about loving yourself when a child and sending love towards that time of our life, acceptance. Therefore ‘Transgenerational’ features Gialu with their family exchanging knowledge through Make Up and also coming out through painting each other’s faces with their parents and grandparents. This will also feature other families of people involved in the project to underline the amount of closure needed in the world.
2.Q and A
A shoot like this is a beautiful opportunity of Q and A’s in an entertaining yet deep-talk style ( inspo LINK ) with a fast cut and family members doing make up on themselves and each other. That way highly entertaining, touching and subconsciously educational reels will come to life.
3.COMMERCIAL
Last but not least - high end imagery showcasing different roots, generations and types of beauty will intertwine among empowering colors of NYX Cosmetics. Close ups, textures, contrasts of looks and stages of life. Touching, truthful, colorful and empowering, just like NYX products make us feel.

Gialu’s song offers a simple narrative. Several transgenerational duos are learning make up from each other. One of them is an empowering experience of doing make up to Gialu’s younger self. Then again of Gialu learning from their grandmother. Coming out in the video is shown by writing it with colorful cosmetics on the face of the grandmother. To which she responds by writing on Gialu’s face ‘that’s okay’.

AN ODE TO THE ONES
WHO BROUGHT US HERE. personally i find that often we forget who fought for us in the past. this is a chance to capture these incredible older generations, encourage exchange. even looking for material for this project i could not find many reference pictures. ‘older woman with make up’ - not much pops up. ‘Grandma doing make up on her grandchild’ nothing appears. ‘parent and trans kid doing make up’ - internet does not respond with visuals. we need to create these images for them to become a believable reality. and nothing helps set a vision in stone like make up does.

endless deep talk and silly giggles
this project through its commercial nature will allow inviting anyone who matches the concept into the most relatable and engaging exchange one could ever have. no matter how it develops it will enrich both the viewer, the participant and even the team behind the camera. we all need this story to add more joy, gratitude, fun and depth to our ways of decorating our faces. and yes, let’s make it silly, relatable, touching and entertaining.
